Strong yet mature character
Welcome to the 9th chapter in our Duvel Barrel Aged saga. It’s a story that began back in 2017. Since which time, our master brewers have gone in search of an exceptional spirit each year with the aim of creating an equally exceptional Duvel. One with the same, familiar character but with a touch of something more. Every year, a blind date, if you will, between our time-honoured Duvel and one of the world’s most celebrated spirits. All the ingredients for an evocative affair with a unique aftertaste.
Kentucky Style Bourbon
This year, our Duvel has been aged on wooden Kentucky Style Bourbon barrels. This American whiskey is nothing short of liquid gold. Produced predominantly from corn (maize), Bourbon has a unique flavour that is sweeter, for example, than a Scotch single malt made from barley.
Aged minimum 6 months
Our exclusive Barrel Aged creations are all produced from original Duvel. Each deliciously complex beer is the result of at least half a year of maturation on oak barrels. This year, carefully selected Kentucky Bourbon barrels have had the honour of imparting extra flavours and aromas to our beloved Duvel.
We’ve now come to the end of this long ride. And it has been more than worth the wait! The aromas of Duvel and Bourbon have blended to perfection, resulting in a truly magical creation.

And while one normally associates whiskey with strong flavours, Kentucky Bourbon is distilled from mainly corn or maize mash, which tempers the raw power of whiskey with more subtle flavours. Kentucky is one of the southern states of USA. The region boasts extensive agriculture and is renowned for its stud farms and grain and tobacco crops. Including, of course, corn (maize) – the most important ingredient of Kentucky Style Bourbon.
Kentucky is synonymous with Bluegrass music. This style of southern country music can be traced back to this state. Music which played a central role, for example, in the film The Broken Circle Breakdown. What better way to get in the mood for a Duvel moment: Blonde. Brave. Bourbon.
